It has been a long last few months, for a lot of reasons, but mainly because of the cold weather. Yes, you read that right, the cold weather. It is a common misconception that Africa is always hot and beautiful. The last few months have been the cold season here, with temperatures never quite getting above eighty. And before you say that sounds wonderful, please remember that the buildings here are not insulated and follow the “open-air” architecture, which means that whatever temperature it is outside, it is at least that temperature inside, often colder. Therefore, it has been jackets and frequent trips to “thaw” out in the sunshine!
But in the last week or so, the temperatures have taken a sudden shift upward, the sun has been out in full blast, and the jackets have been shed. It is warm again, and that means that outdoor activities can begin again in earnest. This includes the reopening of the local swimming pool. This is great news for me, as I like to swim laps in the morning before work. It has felt warm in the office the last few days, as we move towards warmer weather!
